Trauma can be broadly defined as any experience, or event, that has a deeply distressing effect on a person. While this frequently relates to events such as natural disasters, accidents and sexual assault, any experience, even ones that are not life threatening can be considered traumatic.

COUNSELING PROCESS
Frequently, I hear clients say “what happened to me wasn’t that bad” or “I’ve heard a lot worse.” Often times, people will try to move on from Trauma immediately, mainly because they think what happened to them shouldn’t be considered traumatic. As a result, Symptoms of PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be ignored and untreated for years. While avoidance may work for a while, unresolved trauma doesn’t simply “go away” on its own. Trauma counseling is a vital part of learning to live with the traumatic event, as well as move forward in your life in a healthy and productive way.
