MEET KELSEY SIEGEL

I am naturally curious and have always been fascinated by people.

Everyone has a story – sometimes, they just need someone to listen to them.

I love that I can be that someone to talk to openly without any filters.

That’s what inspired my career as a therapist.

MY BACKGROUND

I started my career in mental health in college. My first job was volunteering at a children’s psychiatric hospital, and from there, I joined a psychology research team at my undergraduate alma mater, Tulane University in New Orleans. While the focus of the team was the treatment of children, I found myself growing more interested in learning about the parents and helping them through their struggles. From that point on, I knew I wanted to focus completely on adults.

Ultimately, I decided to get my Master’s Degree from Brooklyn College in Mental Health Counseling, and I am really glad that I did. That program gave me an incredible background in a variety of therapeutic modalities, and it also taught me to look at people as whole beings – not just their troubles.

After Graduate School, I worked in a program for adults with severe and chronic mental illness. Co-occurring substance abuse disorders are very common with mental health issues, and given how relevant they are to the world, I decided to train in addiction treatment as well. The experience and instruction from that program helped develop my skills as a clinician, and this has served me well in my work as a private therapist. Now, I primarily treat anxiety, depression, and addiction issues, but I am also well-versed in the treatment of other disorders, such as PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, and Schizophrenia.

MY APPROACH

I practice psychodynamic therapy – but with a twist. Psychodynamic therapy primarily focuses on processing your experiences in order to increase awareness of how your past is influencing your present. Any experience, relationship, or conflict might be relevant to what’s happening to you now, and I’m here to help you explore them. Here is where the “twist” comes in: unlike many other psychodynamic therapists, I am eclectic in my technique.

I truly believe in using and teaching concrete skills to help someone in the moment. In practice, this means that I meet my clients where they ARE, not where I think they should be. I can help people not only develop coping skills that they can use whenever need be but also uncover what is actually causing these issues to come up in the first place.

My clients can always depend on me to listen and share honest feedback. I am here to work with you as a human being, first and foremost. To me, that means being genuine and straightforward at all times.
